Still trying to get this blog to work again. I can't get it to show any updates--ugh.

Hope you (whoever you are) one day get to see these posts.

Lots of stuff going on with the boy. We're in a major development stage where you can just feel him getting older. He's three and a half now.

Time flies.

###

I may have told a story like this before, but I like this one. We have asked our kid not to use the word "hate"--it's just not usually what a three year-old should be saying about anything.

So he has taken to occasionally adding it to songs he invents.

My wife's favorite:

The boy sang this into our answering machine--he uses the memo feature to record his own voice: "Special sauce, special sauce....special hate sauce."

The other refrain he sings about is that someone--a frog, a dinosaur, etc.--"can't say hate."

Like the FCC excuses Bono's profanity because he used the bad word as an adjective (this is not a joke, but an actual bureaucrat’s legal analysis), my kid has figured out that if it's part of artistic expression, it might get more latitude.

But this may not be by accident.

On one of the rare occasions when we were actually listening to grown up music in the car--97% of the time we endure the tyranny of kid's music because it's happy music that won't teach a kid anything worse than that a monkey might chase a weasel--the boy noticed that the singer said the word "hate." It proved my point about kids picking up negative content from merely being around as parents listen or watch their media (more on that in my book someday)--and he is just 3!

So it's back to "101 Silly Songs" in the car.
